Thank you for visiting our Website. Kamagaya City, situated in northwest Chiba Prefecture, covers a total area of 21.11 square kilometers with the perimeter of 30.75 kilometers. Owing to its location within commuting distance from central Tokyo, the city has developed as a residential town accommodating people who work in the capital region. Its population has increased steadily since 1971, rising to 103,105 as of 1 April, 2006. Kamagaya envisions its future as “a friendly and caring place surrounded by greenery” based on its principle to put people and the citizens’ happy lives before everything. Today, we are beginning to enjoy the benefits of various programs initiated in the previous years. Facilities for travel with a network of trunk roads and eight stations on three railway lines – Tobu Noda Line, Shin-Keisei Line and Hokuso Line serving the city allow people to travel easily. The Hokuso Railroad line running east-west through the city that link Kamagaya with central Toyko, is to be extended to Narita Airport in 2010 as Narita Shin-Kosoku Line. Shin-Kamagaya is the center of the city, where these trunk roads and three train lines run through, and has grown as a central communication network in northwest Chiba. Taking advantage of its convenient location from central Tokyo and Narita Airport, Kamagaya City has set a goal to serve as a hub region beyond the boundaries. This is achieved by creating a city vibrant with life frequented by visitors and local communities provided with comfort and convenience. A general hospital with a pediatric emergency room is being built to be opened at the center of the city next year. This is one of the significant factors which will make us feel secure. In the area of agriculture, fruit cultivation - a regional specialty - enjoys a good reputation for competitive and high value-added produce with modernized management and cultivation methods. Kamagaya is famous throughout the country as one of the centers of pear cultivation. Despite such growth and location in the vicinity of the metropolis, Kamagaya has retained much of its natural environment and productive farmlands where you will find comfort. I hope you will become better acquainted with this city through this Website and take interest in our activities. December 15, 2006
