FAQ

Can books be borrowed?

You will need a Kamagaya library card if you wish to borrow materials from our central library and branch libraries. To get a library card, you must present your identification that includes your name and address; for example, driver’s license, school ID, health insurance certificate (Kenko Hokensho) or foreign registration card.

Is there a limit on the number of items I can borrow?

Anyone who lives, works or attends school in Kamagaya City may take 10 volumes and 2 audio-visual materials out at any one time from our libraries.

How long can I keep borrowed materials?

Books and magazines may be borrowed for 2 weeks and renewed for 2 weeks if not requested by another member. Contact any of our libraries to renew the borrowed materials.

Where can I return the borrowed materials?

Return the borrowed materials to any check-out counter in the libraries. If these libraries are closed, return the books and magazines to the Book Post, or book drop.
To avoid breakage, audio-visual materials such as CDs, DVDs and videos must be returned in person to any library counter during its opening hours. Do not return them to the Book Post.

How can I make reference enquiries?

Ask a librarian in finding books in the library. Kamagaya libraries offer computers with free Internet access and enquiries may also be made via online information.

Kamagaya libraries have a variety of dictionaries, encyclopedias, almanacs and code books. Collections related to Kamagaya City, Chiba Prefecture and neighboring cities and towns may be referenced in the Reference room. Photocopying of collection materials is available within the jurisdiction of copyright laws (There is a charge for copying).

How can I request materials?

You may reserve 5 volumes of books and magazines and 2 items of audio-visual materials or get these items from another branch transferred to your own branch according to priority.

Collection materials that Kamagaya libraries do not hold in possession may be requested to Chiba Prefectural Library or other public libraries in Chiba prefecture. (Please note that it may take time for the transfer and requested materials may not always be available.)

To make a request, apply with a request card at the counter. Requests of audio-visual materials are limited within the collections that Kamagaya libraries have in possession. Requests of materials that Kamagaya libraries do not hold may be taken into consideration for future acquisition.
